New Delhi: The Indian government finds itself grappling with significant security challenges in organizing the G20 meeting in the region of occupied Kashmir, underscoring the fear of potential terrorist attacks as the foremost threat to the event.
Reports reveal that Prime Minister Modi’s administration is deeply apprehensive, as the security arrangements for the G20 meeting have become an arduous task. India has voiced concerns over the security situation in Srinagar, the chosen venue for the event, given the prevailing tense atmosphere in occupied Kashmir.
As part of the security plan, additional commando units have been deployed in the occupied valley, and armed teams from the National Security Guard, in conjunction with special operation groups, have been assigned to provide protection. Notably, the Indian Army’s GoC Kilo Force has been placed on high alert, recognizing the potential danger of fidayeen attacks posing a significant threat to the G20 meeting.
In a concerted effort to thwart potential attacks, Indian security forces have collaborated to construct fortified bunkers and procure bulletproof shields. Additionally, the local police in the occupied valley have strategized the implementation of covert policing, which raises concerns about the potential for extrajudicial arrests and encounters.
To address the evolving security landscape, the Sher Kashmir Police Academy has initiated the training of over 600 police personnel. This training program aims to enhance the capabilities of all forces operating in occupied Kashmir, enabling them to carry out arrests and maintain law and order effectively.
The pertinent question arises as to whether the Modi-led government can effectively conceal the challenges and vulnerabilities it faces in occupied Kashmir from the United Nations under the guise of hosting the G20 meeting. Consequently, G20 member countries must remain vigilant and thoroughly assess the internal situation prevailing in occupied Kashmir before participating in the event.
The deployment of additional forces in occupied Kashmir by the Indian government is a response to the imperative need for maintaining law and order in the region. It becomes crucial to bolster security measures given the delicate circumstances prevailing in the area, warranting the deployment of security forces on a significant scale.
