London: Deep and peaceful sleep is the body’s tonic, the disorder of which causes dozens of diseases. It is now known that disturbed sleep can double the risk of asthma.

Although it used data from the British Biobank, the study was carried out by Professor Bowin Xiang, a scientist at the School of Public Health at Shandong University in China, and his colleagues. Experts have published this research in the British Medical Journal Open Respiratory.

In this context, 455,405 people between the ages of 38 and 73 have been evaluated, all of which data has been taken from the British Biobank. Sleep patterns and breathing and asthma disorders were noted in all these individuals. In addition, studies noting the genetic factors of asthma have also distinguished them.

The study concluded that even after controlling for heritable effects of asthma, persistently poor sleep increased the risk of developing asthma by 122%. But it has also been found that if sleep is disrupted continuously, it also causes genetic changes that can lead to asthma. That is, sleep can attack our breathing process in two ways.

Experts believe that by improving sleep, everyone can improve their respiratory health. Good sleep means 8 to 9 hours of deep and restful sleep. That is, both the quantity and quality of sleep must be improved.
