ISLAMABAD: The hearing of petitions against the Supreme Court Practice and Procedures case will be held today, the Supreme Court has issued notices to 9 political parties including Muslim League-N, PPP and Tehreek-e-Insaf
According to the details, the hearing of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bills case will be held at 12:30 today, an 8-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Attabandial will hear the case.
The bench includes Justice Ijazul Hassan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Mazahir Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Azhar Hasan Rizvi and Justice Shahid Waheed.
Supreme Court has issued notices to 9 political parties including Attorney General, Supreme Court Bar, Pakistan Bar Council, Muslim League-N, People’s Party, Tehreek-e-Insaf.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023 was challenged in the Supreme Court, seeking to declare the bill illegal and unconstitutional.
It should be noted that on April 13 this month, the Supreme Court had stopped the implementation of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act until further orders.
The court had ordered that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill, 2023, related to curtailing the powers of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, would not be effective after the approval of the President or otherwise in the event of its becoming an Act, nor It will be implemented either way.
In its order to stay the implementation of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, the Supreme Court said that the Act was viewed as an interference in the independence of the judiciary and internal affairs.
The text of the order said that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act will not be implemented in any way until the order is amended.
