According to sources in the media reports, it was decided to further amend the Election Act 2017, work on the amendments in sections 57 and 58 of the Election Act has started. Under Section 58, the Election Commission has the power to issue the election schedule, after the amendment in Section 57, the Election Commission will also have the power to recommend the polling day for the election.
According to sources, the proposal to amend Section 57 of the President’s polling day powers is also under consideration. On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance has released funds to the Election Commission for the Punjab Assembly Election. The Ministry of Finance has released 10 billion rupees to the Election Commission.
The Election Commission needs 21 billion rupees for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
