KARACHI: A fire broke out in 3 factories simultaneously in the New Karachi Industrial Area, as a result of which goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed.
According to details, on Wednesday morning, a fire broke out simultaneously in 3 factories near New Karachi Industrial Area, Sector 16B, Karachi Konta, Gabol Town police station limits, which turned violent.
On receiving the information, police officials, Rescue 1122, Sindh Rangers, representatives of voluntary organizations and fire brigade personnel reached the spot along with 5 fire tenders and the fire brigade personnel started efforts to control the fire.
After about 2 to 3 hours of efforts, the fire in the motorcycle parts and oil factory was brought under control, while the fire on the ground floor of the bed shed manufacturing factory could not be controlled.
Spreading further upstream, the fire brigade personnel requested more fire tenders, bowsers, snorkels and water tankers from the water board authorities. Meanwhile, a fire in the bed sheet factory reached the third floor of the building.
According to the Deputy Commander of Rescue 1122 Sindh Emergency Services, he received the report of fire in the factories in New Karachi Industrial Area in his control room around 8 o’clock, on this occasion an up party was also invited.
Chief Fire Officer Ashfaq Khan said that the fire in a factory in New Karachi Industrial Area spread to three factories, at that time the fire was out of control, the clothes, bed sheets, hosiery and other goods in the factory were on the ground floor. The fire at the back of the building has been brought under control, but firefighters have to go to work on the first and second floors of the building. Factories also have packing equipment.
The chief fire officer said that the fire brigade called for a snorkel in the area but there was no place to park the snorkel. The Chief Fire Officer said that the fire brigade had 10 fire tenders, 12 water board bowers to control the fire.
Chief Disaster Management Cell North Karachi Association while talking to media representatives said that the fire in the factory was reported at 7:45 am and the rescue work has been going on since 8 am.
He said that it was an export factory named Usman & Sons, there were 20 containers of finished goods in the factory at the time of the fire and there was a loss of Rs 30 crore. The factory was closed at that time, how the fire started will be known only after the investigation.
Administrator Karachi Dr. Saifur Rehman and Assistant Commissioner Gulberg Neha Shah reached the spot as soon as the fire was reported. Administrator Karachi while talking to media representatives said that fortunately there was no loss of life due to the fact that the factory was closed at the time of the fire. Dr. AS Saifur Rehman said that 15 fire tenders took part in controlling the fire, 4 fire station officials and the chief fire officer were present at the spot, the area was dense, vehicular traffic was difficult, snorkel was also present here. Under control, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained even by the local authorities.
