After FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Taj has been entrusted to host another World Cup.
FIBA, the international governing body of basketball, has announced that Qatar’s capital Doha will host the 2027 World Cup, with a total of 32 teams participating.
The 89-ranked Qatari team will automatically qualify after hosting the World Cup, in the year 2006, the Qatari team played in the World Championship event in which they lost all five of their matches.
Qatar is the third Asian country to host the Men’s Basketball World Cup, after China in 2019, while this year the championship will be jointly hosted by the Philippines and Japan.
On the other hand, the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 has been entrusted to Berlin, the capital of Germany.
It should be noted that the International Basketball Federation announced that the world basketball event will be held in Doha after the great arrangements made by Qatar during the FIFA World Cup.
Qatar has previously been criticized for the inhumane treatment of its migrant labor force in the run-up to the World Cup, but FIBA made no reference to human rights issues when announcing the host.
