The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Imran Khan, had a meeting with the German Ambassador to Pakistan, Alfred Grans, at Zaman Park in Lahore. The PTI spokesperson reported that the meeting primarily focused on bilateral issues, mutual interests, and the current political and human rights situation in Pakistan. The impact of these issues on GSP Plus status was also discussed.
During the meeting, Chairman Imran Khan expressed his concern about the current political situation in Pakistan. He stated that the government, which deviates from the constitution and democracy, deprives people of their right to vote through extra-constitutional measures that go against democratic principles. He emphasized that the PTI is working towards upholding the supremacy of the constitution, law, and democratic values in national decision-making.
Chairman Imran Khan further added that the PTI is striving to resolve the crisis through negotiations within constitutional limits to ensure the continuity of democracy. He highlighted that serious violations of human rights and attacks on democracy require immediate attention from scholars. Chairman Imran Khan also raised concerns about the presence of illegal caretaker governments in Punjab and Pakhtunkhwa despite the 90-day constitutional period, which is causing significant damage to the country’s economy.
Imran Khan further discussed with the German ambassador the violation of basic human rights and constitutional freedoms, and how this has become a style of governance. He criticized the filing of false cases of treason and sedition against those who protest peacefully, engage in legal election campaigns, and express their freedom of speech. He welcomed the voices raised around the world in support of publics, political activists, and independent journalists.
In response, Alfred Grans expressed his support for the development and prosperity of Pakistan and emphasized the importance of promoting and protecting fundamental rights and democratic values for social growth and development. He also stated that sustainable economic and social development is crucial, and Germany is ready to support Pakistan as a partner in achieving these goals.
The German Ambassador shared a photo of the meeting with Chairman Imran Khan on his Twitter account, indicating the positive nature of the discussion.
