The BJP, which has been in power in the municipal government of New Delhi for 15 years, has tried every unconstitutional tactic since its defeat in the elections, but despite all the hooliganism, the Aam Aadmi Party managed to get its mayor and deputy mayor elected unopposed. .

According to Indian media, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shelly Oberoi was elected as the Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi unopposed and unanimously, her rival BJP candidate Shikha Rai withdrew her papers.

Similarly, the BJP candidate has withdrawn his papers for the Deputy Mayor and Aam Aadmi Party’s All Mohammad Iqbal won unopposed for this post as well.

For the first time since 1977, a Muslim has been elected to the post of deputy mayor in the municipal government of New Delhi.

It should be remembered that the Aam Aadmi Party won 134 out of 250 seats in the municipal elections in New Delhi in December 2022, ending the 15-year rule of the BJP.

The BJP, showing its traditional politics based on thuggery and intolerance, not only refused to accept these results but also suspended the swearing-in session of the elected members in the local parliament by rioting.

The former speaker and deputy speaker of New Delhi, who belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party, obstructed the transfer of power to the Aam Aadmi Party and repeatedly suspended the session.

BJP tried to get the Aam Aadmi Party members to join them by first threatening them and then luring them, but the Modi government faced severe embarrassment.

In the face of increasing public pressure and the independence of Aam Aadmi Party members, the Modi government became helpless and had to drink the bitter taste of transferring power. In order to avoid defeat, Modi’s candidates were able to flee the fray.
