Raipur: A police van returning from an operation against Maoist rebels in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh was blown up in a landmine explosion.
According to Indian media, the windows of the district reserve guard’s van were blown off in the mine explosion in the state of Chhattisgarh. Bodies were scattered everywhere. Hearing the screams of the injured officials, local people rushed to help.
The police team, baffled by the attack, mistook the local people who came to help as militants and started killing them. More army and police personnel were called in the area.
In the tight security cordon, the dead and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where 10 officials and a driver were confirmed dead. 5 officials are injured.
A police spokesman said the personnel’s vehicle was targeted when it was returning from an intelligence-led operation against Maoist rebels.
It should be remembered that the Maoist rebels in the state of Chhattisgarh are fighting an armed war for independence from India and for their separate homeland, and these fighters have threatened the Indian army and police with their actions.
