Karachi: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has crossed another milestone by performing open heart surgery on 5-year-old girl Zainab.
Zainab suffered from a hole in the heart that caused increased blood flow to the lungs, and she had frequent chest infections.
To perform this surgery, a team of 9 doctors, 2 perfusionists (who operate the heart and lung machine) and 8 nurses worked tirelessly to ensure Zainab’s post-operative care and recovery. He was discharged from the hospital yesterday.
Much planning was done to perform the first open heart surgery at SIUT.
Initially, a pediatric cardiology department was established by a team of cardiologists and their support staff. The disease can be cured.
SIUT provides free and high quality treatment with self-esteem to meet the needs of patients, where provision of new and modern facilities for treating complex diseases of patients is given top priority.
